WNBL and Fox Sports Australia renew broadcast deal
Coupled with Fox Sports Australia broadcasting one match every round, the WNBL will also live-stream every game via a WNBL online platform.
This is a landmark announcement on the cusp of a historic 40th season of Australia’s longest running elite female sporting competition.
Basketball Australia’s Head of Women in Basketball, Lauren Jackson, commented on the exciting announcement.
“It’s an exciting time for women in basketball and we expect the momentum to continue to push our league into the future.
“It’s fantastic that all of our games are going to be seen and accessible. We have an incredible season coming up and we expect our Aussies to be in fine form, as well as our import players who are coming off successful WNBA seasons,” Jackson said.
The live streaming will be trialled through the first two rounds of the 2019-20 WNBL season, with select games available, before an expected full launch at the commencement of round three.
The 84 game WNBL regular season will run from October 11-February 1, with the Finals Series taking place from February 15-March 8.
Continuing the league’s history of attracting some of the best female talent world-wide, 10 of the 12 Chemist Warehouse Australian Opals that claimed bronze medal at the recent FIBA Women’s Asia Cup will suit up this season.
Joining our Australian stars will be a number of marquee international imports, including WNBA players, Kia Nurse (UC Capitals), Mercedes Russell (Southside Flyers), Ariel Atkins (Perth Lynx), Brianna Turner (Adelaide Lightning) and Sophie Cunningham (Deakin Melbourne Boomers).
With the depth of talent continuing to soar to new heights, and coverage at unprecedented levels for women’s sport in Australia, we eagerly anticipate season tip-off for what is poised to be a truly historic 40th season of the WNBL.
