As valued members of MSDBA (Spartans Basketball), we advise that the Tuesday and Wednesday night senior domestic competitions held at MSAC will be managed by Melbourne Central Basketball Association (MCBA), as part of a planned transitional process which commenced with an agreement over 3 years ago.  This transition is a collaboration between Spartans and MCBA (and includes the support of Basketball Victoria and the Victorian government) with the intention of providing the best possible community basketball experience for the Melbourne and Port Phillip area.

What does this mean for you?

All Tuesday and Wednesday night games will now join the competitions under MCBA’s management and all teams will now be registered to the MCBA PlayHQ database.

The Tuesday night competition will continue to run as normal with Men’s and Women’s competitions, whilst keeping the unique characteristic of dedicated scorers. The competition will be named as Spartans Tuesday Senior Domestic and we will always retain and respect the Spartans history.

The Wednesday night competition will continue to run with the same grades on offer in the Men’s and Women’s competitions with the addition of a Mixed competition. The Melbourne Basketball Association competition that was running parallel on the Wednesday evening is also transitioning into the MCBA and will be merged together to have only one competition being managed on Wednesday evenings under MCBA.  As we combine the two competitions there will be grading requirements that will occur over the first four weeks of the Winter 2025 competition.

As an MCBA competition, the transition will bring Spartans members a fantastic new feature: Glory League, where you’ll now be able to watch full game replays from every one of your games played at MSAC!

MCBA is looking forward to welcoming all Spartans members into the MCBA community and with the help of Spartans, MCBA are committed to continuing to grow the sport of basketball in all aspects of the game including competitions, officials, programs and pathways for basketballers in the Melbourne and Port Phillip area.

MCBA intend to work closely with the team at Spartans (who have managed the competition for a long time) for continued success and believe the transition will provide minimal changes for teams participating.   As the transition continues, we welcome your feedback.
