Tough third quarter hurts Gliders in loss to Japan

The Gliders kept pace with the host nation outside of that third period, where they were outscored 21-8.

Following a similar path to previous Gliders games in Tokyo, head coach, Stephen Charlton continued to tinker with different lineup combinations, ensuring that all players had their chance to impress.

“Another good challenge today with all players hitting the court again,” a positive Charlton said postgame.

“Some of our younger players had their best game of the series. With Teisha Shadwell, Issy Martin, Maryanne Latu and Taishar Ovens all playing great games. This is both crucial to our continued improvement and and exciting to see.”

Amber Merritt led the way for the Gliders with 15 points, while Annabelle Lindsay chipped in with 10 points.

Looking beyond the scoreboard, Charlton believes the performance was the best of the week so far for his side.

“Whilst we didn’t win the game it was a much more controlled effort tonight, with plenty of learning points that we can control as we play together more.”

 

 

TOKYO – In what was a tight contest for three of the four quarters, it was the third that spelled doom for the Gliders in their 62-48 loss to Japan on Saturday.
