SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR BOOMERS AHEAD OF FIBA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS FIFTH WINDOW

The Boomers have the chance to officially book their place at the 2019 FIBA World Cup if they succeed in these next two games with only four games remaining in the qualifiers.

Rising stars Kyle Adnam (Sydney Kings) and Harry Froling (Adelaide 36ers), who won a silver medal at the 2014 Under-17 World Cup, will be aiming to make their way into the team.

Perth Wildcats’ Tom Jervis, who was previously included in the Boomers’ FIBA Asia Cup squad, has been named as well as 2015 FIBA Oceania Champion Nate Jawai (Cairns Taipans).

They join 12 of the players that competed for the Boomers in the last window with every Australian NBL club represented alongside Mitch Creek who is currently training with the Long Island Nets NBA G-League team.

“This will be another important window for us,” said Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis.

“I know we’re all looking forward to the match-up with Iran- we had a great contest against them in the Asia Cup final. They present some unique challenges and that has been kept in mind as we select this group of 24.

“As we have spoken about all along, the group remains fluid. It has been great to see the impact of some of the younger guys in the early rounds of the NBL and it is nice to be able to recognise that with their inclusion in to the extended team of 24.”

Australia will take on Iran on November 30 in a re-match of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup gold medal game before facing Qatar on December 3 in their second meeting of the qualifiers with both contests to be played at Margaret Court Arena.

“I know we’re all looking forward to the games in Melbourne,” said Lemanis.

“As always, I’m privileged and honoured to get the opportunity to represent Australia and work with these outstanding athletes.”

Tickets for both games as well as a package deal are now available via Ticketek here.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the official Boomers team in mid-November.
