QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOUR FOR BASKETBALL AUSTRALIA CEO
Basketball Australia is delighted to confirm that the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer Jerril Rechter, was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours List.
Recognised for “significant service to community health, to sports administration, and to the arts”, this award is a reflection on Rechter’s leadership throughout her career and the positive impact her actions have had on communities and organisations, both here and abroad.
On being bestowed with this honour, Basketball Australia Chief Executive Officer Jerril Rechter said: “I am surprised, honoured and truly humbled to be receiving this award. I consider it a privilege to be able to contribute to the sectors and industries I have during my career to date.
“Serving the community is an honour. The organisations I have led and continue to be involved with, engender a vision for an improved society. Their core purpose, exceptional values and desire to enhance community is at their heart. This award is also recognition for the wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and the extraordinary effects and achievements of a great many.”
Prior to her role at Basketball Australia, Rechter held senior leadership positions at VicHealth (Chief Executive Officer The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation, 2012 – 2019); Leadership Victoria (Executive Director, 2009 – 2012); Footscray Community Arts Centre (Chief Executive Officer, 2004 ─ 2008); Melbourne International Festival of the Arts (Artistic Associate, 2001 ─ 2003); and Stompin Youth Dance Co (Founder and Chief Executive Officer, 1992 ─ 2000).
Rechter has, and continues to make significant contributions to many state, national and international organisations in a Non-Executive capacity including Western Bulldogs Football Club Board (Director since 2018); Western Bulldogs Community Foundation (Director since 2018); Stephanie Lake Dance Company (Chair since 2017); Justice Health Ministerial Advisory Council (Council Member 2014, Chair 2015-2019); International Network of Health Promotion Foundations (Board Member 2012, Chair 2015-2019); Liquor Control Ministerial Advisory Council (Member 2014-2019); Advisory Member, Inquiry into Women and Girls in Sport and Active Recreation (2014-2015); and World Health Organization (Advisor since 2012).
Her previous awards include the Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence, Public Policy (2016); the Telstra Business Woman of the Year Victoria, Government and Academia (2015); Centenary Medal (2000); and the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship (1998).
