FIXTURE RELEASED FOR FIBA UNDER-17 WORLD CUP

Drawn into Group D, Australia (who are ranked seventh in the world for juniors) will take on Angola (ranked 34th), Latvia (24th) and Canada (4th) in the group stage across four days.

All 16 teams at the World Cup will qualify for the Round of 16 but from there, it is a knockout with the winners advancing through the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and into the medal playoff games on July 29.

The Sapphires are the defending Champions at the FIBA Under-17 World Cup, after breaking through for their first ever gold medal at the tournament in 2016.

Jasmine Simmons, Monique Conti and Ezi Magbegor filled out three of the five spots in the All-Tournament Team while Magbegor also took home the MVP award in a memorable campaign.

Australia qualified for this year’s FIBA Under-17 World Cup after winning gold at the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship.

They advanced undefeated, winning six games by an average margin of 35.7 points although Japan gave them a great battle in the gold medal playoff, falling 60-61.

July 22: Sapphires vs. Latvia

The Australian Sapphires can now begin their preparations for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup with the fixture released for the tournament which runs from July 21-29 in Belarus.
