Federal Government Invests $50.6 million into High Performance Sport
This forms a part of the Government’s commitment to helping Australia’s sporting sector which has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially leading into major international sporting events such as the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Basketball Australia CEO, Jerril Rechter, says that the announcement is what the sports community needed to hear.
“This is exciting news that couldn’t have come at a better time for high performance departments across all sporting codes,” says Rechter.
“Basketball Australia would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the Federal Government and all involved in this investment which shows vast and continuous support for all Australian athletes, coaches and supporting staff.”
Minister for Sport, Richard Colbeck has explained that the investment will ensure core funding for Australian athletes and coaches is maintained, whilst also building on the recent funds by the Morrison Government to support athlete wellbeing and help pave the way for aspiring Olympians and Paralympians.
“This financial support from the Government and Minister Colbeck, will allow for high performance sporting associations across the board to maximise all opportunities, and for Australian athletes to continue to prepare, train and focus on their goals.” Rechter said.

Over the weekend, Minister for Sport, Senator Richard Colbeck, announced that the Australian Federal Government would be investing $50.6 million in high performance sport over the next two years.
