Ballarat band together with Home-Stay-Play Program
A joint initiative of Peter Eddy and Joel Anderson, Basketball Ballarat’s Home-Stay-Play program supports the key message of staying home, while still keeping the community engaged and active.
The Home-Stay-Play Program is a grassroots focused program which has a page dedicated to Coaches, Referees and Players aged 5-7,8-14 and 15+. People can register their interest in one or more categories and be sent email updates with new educational material every Monday.
These updates comprise some original content from Basketball Ballarat, relevant content other associations, NBL clubs and a number of elite international coaches.
Ballarat Basketball CEO Peter Eddy felt his association’s priority during this unprecedented period was to be there as an acting body and keep heads up for everyone involved in the sport.
“No one has been in a situation like this where there is no organised sport before now,” Eddy said. “Keeping people energised and focused is the only way to ensure they’re up and ready to play again once this shut down is over.
“We see it as important to provide free engagement tools for all our members, players, referees, coaches and parents so they maintain a sense of affiliation with Basketball Ballarat while physically separated from us and to encourage potential new members.”
FOR THE PLAYERS
From story time with Matthew Dellavedova to fun dribbling drills, Basketball Ballarat has ensured the youngest basketballers have the opportunity and available tools to start their journey in the sport.
“We are also sharing our program via our Aussie Hoopers, local primary schools and tertiary institutions to encourage maximum circulation to current and potential new member,” Eddy said.
Each week Basketball Ballarat has released drill videos, content from other associations and information to help athletes keep getting better while at home.

It is important to ensure that referees and all others involved in sport continue to stay engaged and connected with their associations, as well as to maintain rule knowledge and grow their skill sets. This period is the perfect opportunity to focus on the ‘behind the scenes’ theory learning, which can sometimes be overlooked and underestimated when on court.
Basketball Ballarat provides the following for referees:
- Fitness programs that can be utilised during the shutdown period
- Educational resources
- Decision making clips
- Rule quizzes
This program is aimed at grassroots coaches. Parents and some domestic coaches will like to start with the beginner classes, while the intermediate classes are aimed at coaches in domestic A grade and the JET program.

- Ballarat beginner coaching seminars (held over Zoom)
