The group stage is complete for the Under-14 Boys with teams now divided into Championship and Shield Division as we head towards the business end of the tournament.

A couple of nail-biters highlighted the Day 2 action with the Canberra Gunners holding off a gallant North West Tasmania Devils side by five points and Townsville Heat getting the better of the South West Slammers by six points in the final contest of the evening.

The closest clash was a battle of the birds though with the Warrnambool Seahawks defeating the Illawarra Hawks by two points on the buzzer.

Getting the steal off the inbounds pass, George Stevens took it to the other end of the floor and hit the game-winning lay-up right before time expired.

That helped the Seahawks finish the pool stage undefeated and Stevens is now the tournament’s leading scorer with an average of 30.7 points.

There are a few other teams that have asserted themselves with unblemished records ahead of Day 3 with the reigning Champions Eltham Wildcats advancing on top of Group A with the highest point differential of any team (+92).

The team they defeated in the gold medal game last year, Sydney Comets, are also yet to drop a game, while Blacktown West, Nunawading Spectres and Bulleen Boomers are putting their hand up as Championship contenders.

Tomorrow morning will see a couple of those teams go head-to-head with Warrnambool to face Sydney and Nunawading going up against Bulleen in a Victorian cross-town battle.
