2018 AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 3 RECAP

The Semi-Finals are set in the Championship Division with Lake Ginninderra (silver medallists from last year) taking on Willetton (2017 bronze medallists) and Trinity meeting Rowville in the men’s.

For the women, two teams that missed out on medals last year in Rowville and Willetton will face off while Immanuel and Hillcrest, two teams that did not participate last year, will battle in the other Semi.

There were some brilliant finishes once again on Day 3, with Willetton holding off Redlands in the Under-20 Women’s Division 2 as Redlands desperately fought for their first victory of the week.

Jonathon Lyons was the hero for Newington in the Under-20 Men’s Division 3, giving them their maiden win and keeping their finals hopes alive with a 56-55 thriller over St. Ignatius.

Rowville stayed undefeated in the Under-17 Girls Division 1 but it was not easy, getting past Catherine McAuley College by two points before defeating Sheldon later in the day.

Bendigo South East College took care of Maribyrnong by a point after the Jets hit a late three-pointer in the Under-17 Boys Division 1 but they were not so lucky earlier in the day when Hillcrest pulled off an out of bounds play to perfection to win the game on the siren.

Finally, in an important contest for ladder position in the Under-15 Girls Division 1, Meg Robertson’s free-throws inside the final minute proved enough as Berwick defeated the international team, Rotorua by two points.
