The game is condensed, and scoring is different with anything inside the three-point line counting as one point, and beyond the perimeter counting at two points. However, the rules are simple, the first team to reach 21 points or the highest score after 10 minutes wins.
The Australian national teams for the 3×3 are both proving highly successful and skilled at the adapted ball game.
In Chengdu, China, June 2019, the Australian Women’s 3×3 team claimed the first stop and brought home the gold at the inaugural FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series.
The team, which is made up of four current WNBL athletes; Keely Frolling, Maddie Garrick, Bec Cole and Alice Kunek, also features past-WNBL player Hanna Zavecz.
The Australian men’s team fronted with the talents of Thomas Garlepp, Tom Wright, Andrew Steel and Owen Odigie, also took home gold in the 2018 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, remaining undefeated in the tournament held in Shenzhen, China.

3×3 is the newest and fastest way to play a game of basketball. Played with one basket in half a court space, three players per team on court at a time with a 12-second shot clock, the game pace is much more intense than a full-court regular 5×5 game.
