One Year to Tokyo Paralympics!

With an extended journey to Tokyo as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Men’s National Wheelchair team, the Australian Rollers and the Women’s National Wheelchair team, the Australian Gliders will once against represent Australia at the Paralympics in 2021.

The Rollers debuted at the inaugural Paralympic Games held in Rome, Italy, in 1960. Since their first appearance, they have taken to the podium four times, and on two of these occasions, left with gold around their necks.

The Gliders debuted at the 1992 Paralympics which were held in Barcelona, Spain. Over the past two decades, the Gliders have represented Australia seven times, and have returned medalled on four occasions.

Both squads are no strangers to the international limelight. The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) holds a World Cup every four years, and our Australian teams have placed a combined seven times.
