At the M&SDBA Annual General Meeting held on the 8th January, 2019, President Gordon Sincock, tended his resignation.

Gordon has been a member of the Spartanscommittee since 1951, becoming President in 1982 and serving in that role for 37 years.  Gordon was instrumental in turning a small club into one of the best run domestic competitions in Australia.  Gordon firmly believed in the family aspect of Spartans, he came down heavily on bad language, cheating and abusing officials, and always encouraged families to bring their children to the stadium, often providing kids sized Spartans shirts.  Gordon also believed in assisting junior and disadvantaged players with financial support, giving Spartans a rich history in the development of stars of the future. Gordon believed with all his heart our Mission:

“To enrich the life of Victorians living in the Metropolitan Area of Melbourne by significantly contributing to the recreational and sporting needs of the community by the conduct of quality Basketball Competitions for Senior Men and Women”.

We know all in the Spartans family wish Gordon and his wife Barb a healthy and happy retirement.

Our newly elected President is Avis Scullin (OAM).  Avis has also had a long involvement with Spartans Basketball and can always be found on Tuesday nights on court 3 where she is the Scoretable Official. Avis has had considerable experience in most aspects of Basketball and was inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2008.  Avis was also recently inducted into the VBRA Wall of Fame.  Avis will continue to uphold the standards as set by Gordon.

Congratulations to the other elected Executives:
