LOGO UNVEILED FOR 2018 UNDER-18 AND KEVIN COOMBS CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS

Representing the combined efforts of Basketball Australia and Basketball Geelong in hosting the Championships, the logo incorporates Geelong’s association colours as well as referencing the famous Geelong Bollards along the bottom edge.

The Geelong Bollards which have stood at the foreshore of Rippleside Park, the Waterfront and Botanic Gardens for almost 20 years and are the most photographed icons in Geelong.

They encapsulate a chronicle of the city’s past by focusing on the unique characters that helped shape what Geelong is today including Matthew Flinders, a Koori family and Surf LifeSavers.

The bollards are one of many tourist attractions around Geelong and with this year’s Championships running over a week, there will be plenty of time for fans to see the sights as well as take in some exciting basketball at the Geelong Arena.

“Basketball Geelong is honoured to be hosting this year’s Under-18 Championships and Kevin Coombs Cup,” said Dean Anglin, Basketball Geelong CEO.

“We hope that in addition to enjoying the event, visitors will get out and about and explore everything that the region has to offer.”

Many of Australia’s future stars have competed at the Under-18 Championships in the past including Matthew Dellavedova, Liz Cambage and Patty Mills while the Kevin Coombs Cup will serve as the perfect warm-up for some players ahead of the IWBF World Wheelchair Basketball Championships later this year.

Every state will be represented in 2018 and the fixtures for both tournaments will be released in the coming days with less than two months until competition tips off.

The official logo for the 2018 Under-18 Championships and Kevin Coombs Cup has been revealed with the tournament to be hosted in Geelong, Victoria, from April 21-28.
