2020 Aus Champs tips off with Under-20 & Ivor Burge
Today marked the beginning of the 2020 Australian U20 & Ivor Burge Championships which are being held at Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, ACT with 20 games played across day.

The day started off with a bang as South Australia U20 Men narrowly beat ACT 73-70 while next door NBA Global Academy pulled off a major upset taking out defending champion powerhouse Victoria 99-91 in the first two games of the tournament.
Victoria A Men defeated New South Wales by 16 points off the back of a 34-point game from Kingsley Box, final score 107-91. Queensland U20 Men had a strong win against Western Australia, solidifying their spot as a team to beat. Blake Jones (27 points) and Tamuri Wigness (20 points) had major contributions with the final scores 93-78. NBA Global Academy perfected their start taking out their second game South Australia 81-73 while ACT struggled to back up their second going down to a fresh Tasmania 103-89.
On the U20 women’s side, Queensland were able to hold off Victoria A with a 67-61 victory, while New South Wales fell short of the star-studded Victoria team 65-79 in the morning games.
The afternoon provided retribution however with New South Wales taking out Tasmania 76-65 despite an impressive performance from Tasmania’s Shelby Rayner with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. While Victoria A also made up for the tough morning loss taking out South Australia 80-71. Victoria finished the day 2-0 defeating Western Australia 86-36.
It was a completely different story in the Ivor Burge competitions with some incredible score lines detailing who are the teams to watch for the rest of the tournament. The South Australia A Ivor Burge Men recorded the biggest score of the day reaching a whopping 171 against New South Wales. Similarly, Tasmania’s men’s team scored an impressive 124 against Western Australia, with some incredible displays of talent from Jeremiah Lowe (30 points) and Josh Cleary (29 points), final score TAS 124-54 WA.
Japan’s Ivor Burge representative team also recorded an incredible figure, smashing South Australia B team 162-25 in their first match of the tournament.
Western Australia battled it out against the home side, ACT, in the Women’s side of the Ivor Burge Championships however it was the fast-paced locals who prevailed in a close finish, final score 60-53. Victoria demonstrated their strength defeating South Australia 111-23 while the home team were unable to back up for the second game going down to New South Wales 81-30 in the final game of the night.
