2017 BVC Awards nominations close end of January

Chair of the BVC Awards Committee, Ashely Donaldson will convene the committee in the first weeks of February to discuss each nomination with the final recommendations being presented to the Victorian Country Commission on the 24 February.

“The Award winners will be presented at the BVC Awards Breakfast to be conducted at the Bendigo Basketball Stadium on Saturday, 7 April 2017.”  Ashley said.  “This year is the 50th anniversary of Basketball Victoria Country and it will add further prestige to the Awards process.”

Associations can nominate individuals for the award categories and recognize volunteers within their association.  Last year the Korumburra Basketball Association nominated Carolyn Grabham for the Judy Doye Award for Female Administrator of the Year.  Carolyn was recognised at the BVC Awards Breakfast:

Carolyn has been an active member of Korumburra Basketball for over 20 years and for the past 8 years has been the Associations Treasurer/Financial manager in a voluntary capacity.  Carolyn has worked extremely hard to maintain the associations finance and has put Korumburra into a position of financial strength.

Carolyn also plays a major role in the administration of the canteen, Squad program, VJBL Program as well as being an avid supporter of the Korumburra teams.

Key achievements have been across Online Registration, Financial management and leadership/training of other volunteers.  Carolyn has had an outstanding commitment across hours and expertise and is that person that all volunteer organisations need, she does her job quietly, with a minimum of fuss and a good degree of humour.

Nominations are to be submitted online and can be accessed at BVC Award nominations

The Victorian Country Commission (VCC) oversees the work of the Awards Committee and ultimate receives the recommendations from the Committee across all Awards.

“It is very important to us to recognise our volunteers.” Chair of the VC Commission Bill Jeffs Said.  “Our organisation is successful because of the work of our volunteer base and the cost to participate in basketball is kept low because volunteers fulfil numerous obligations.”

“Following a very successful Awards Breakfast in 2017 that acknowledged achievement in Country Basketball, BVC is looking forward to this year’s breakfast and recognising more volunteers in Country Basketball”  BVC General Manager, David Huxtable said.

19 awards are presented across 6 areas of Country Basketball:

Section A – Recognition of athlete and coaches

Section B – Recognition of Associations and individuals

Section C – Recognition of organisations, associations or individuals in the diversity and inclusion area

Section D – Recognition of organisations, associations or individuals in the promotion of basketball

Section E – Recognition of Associations and individuals in the Referee area

Section F – The nomination process for awarding the Jack Terrill Medal

“The latest research tells us that the sport and physical recreation sector attracts the largest number of volunteers in Victoria.” David said.  “Over 173 million hours of volunteer work is contributed each year to organisations across Victoria and this is worth in excess of $4.3 billion to the Victoria economy annually.”

BVC understands that as we increase our participation rates and build on our vibrant associations, more volunteers will be needed to meet this increasing demand.
