Victorians star at FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series

With an entirely Victorian side of Alice Kunek, Bec Cole, Maddie Garrick and Hanna Zavecz, the girls finished the tournament undefeated, the second of the week after the same result in the 3×3 Asia Cup and taking the girls’ winning streak to 12.

Cole lit up the tournament with 6.2 points per game whilst also leading the tournament in key assists with seven and finishing second in the unique ‘highlights’ category with 18 across the five games.

Kunek finished second in scoring for the tournament, averaging 9.2 points per game and Zavecz led the tournament in blocks with 12.

It was hardly a breeze for them, with a narrow victory over France to kick off the tournament before more comfortable wins over Mongolia and the USA to advance straight to the semi-final where they met the Netherlands.

A late push by the Netherlands gave the Aussies a scare, before eventually running out winners 12-10. The final was more comfortable, beating Japan 21-15 to take home the gold.

With the 3×3 World Cup not too far away, held June 18 in Amsterdam, the Aussies are setting up for legitimate run at the title.
