Vale – Rosemary Day

Earning Basketball Victoria Life Membership in 2006, Rosemary Day was well-known throughout the Australian basketball community as an incredible administrator and proud advocate for inclusion – especially women’s basketball in her role as Women’s Basketball Commission president.

She held a perennial presence within MEBA – having served as an administrator for over 40 years – and also sat on a number of committees and commissions.

Day leaves behind a wonderful legacy within basketball and passed on her passion for the sport to her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren.

Basketball Victoria CEO Nick Honey said it was a sad day for the entirety of Victorian basketball as extraordinary people such as Rosemary do not come along every day.

“On behalf of Basketball Victoria I’d like to extend my condolences to Rosemary’s friends, family and all who knew her through her tireless work with MEBA and Nunawading Basketball,” Honey said. “We are incredibly lucky in basketball to have passionate, proud administrators serve our game across a number of years such as Rosemary.

“We’ll fondly remember Rosemary, her grand achievements and the lasting legacy she’ll leave within our game as a Basketball Victoria Life Member.”

Rosemary is a Nunawading Hall of Fame Inductee as well as a MEBA and Basketball Victoria life member and will be remembered as an incredibly strong and loyal woman and will be sorely missed by all within the Nunawading community.

Rosemary’s memorial service will be held Wednesday 31 October at 11am at the Nunawading Basketball Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her honour to Epworth Richmond.
