Under-20 and Ivor Burge referees announced

Held in Canberra from 13-17 February, the Under-20 Championships represents the pinnacle of our developing referees who officiate at national championships.

Jordan Royal, Shannon Jennings, Stefanie Deustcher and Ken Spratt will be part of the Australian Junior Under-20 Championships following successful tournaments in Geelong at last year’s Australian Junior Under-18 Championships.

Royal received the 2018 Under-18 Men’s gold medal appointment while Jennings was appointed to the 2018 Under-18 Women’s gold medal game between Victoria Metropolitan and New South Wales Metropolitan.

Royal and Deutscher were also appointed to the Under-18 Girls gold medal game at the 2018 National Junior Classic. All four officials also commenced refereeing in SEABL in 2018.

Spratt earned a bronze medal game in the Under-18 Boys 2018 National Junior Classic along with a Big V Championship Women grand final series.

Jennings and Royal also both received gold medal matches in the Under-18 2018 Country Championships.

Our three referees selected to officiate at the Ivor Burge Championships are Mitchell Bond, Nick Foord and Adam Sheehy. These three referees have started the pathway for Australian Junior Championships with impressive contributions within Country Championships as well as in the MUVJBL.

“It’s an impressive effort to officiate at multiple Australian Junior Championships and for Jordan, Shannon, Stefanie and Ken, they have been exceptional referees at the national junior level,” Basketball Victoria’s Technical Officials Manager Bill Mildenhall said. “They have earned the opportunity to wear the stripes at the Under-20 Championships.

“Our three appointed referees to the Ivor Burge Championships are similarly rising through their refereeing careers and it’s always great to see Victorian referees get these amazing opportunities.

“We wish our seven appointed Victorian referees the best of luck in Canberra.”
