POOLS ANNOUNCED FOR FIBA 3X3 WORLD CUP

The tournament structure consists of four pools, made up of five teams each. The Australian women are the 18th seed in the tournament while the men are the 19th seed.

The men sit in Pool D with Latvia, Japan, Brazil and Poland while the women draw Pool B alongside France, Japan, Switzerland and Andorra.

Both Australian teams qualified for the World Cup after finishing in the top three at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifiers event in Puerto Rico over the weekend. The women finished in first place with a 4-0 record, as they defeated Brazil 21-3 in the qualifying game to announce themselves as a force in the 3×3 world.

Meanwhile, the men endured a grueling two-day schedule, playing six games in two days, and with Andrew Steel sustaining a groin injury, the Australians were left with no bench relief for the playoff games.

Despite this, the inspired play of Tim Coenraad, Greg Hire and Tom Wright eventually saw the Aussies qualify as they defeated the Czech Republic 21-11 to secure the final place in the World Cup.
