MITCHELL ADVANCES TO ROUND OF 8 AND BROEKHOFF CONTINUES TO FIRE IN EUROCUP

As a member of Turkish side Hatay, Mitchell has advanced to the Round of 8 where they will take on Hungarian team KSC Szekszard in a two-game home and away series on January 24 and 31.

Hatay did not have things easy in the Round of 16 though, defeating Enisey on points differential after both sides claimed a victory in the series.

In Game 1, Hatay prevailed 70-65 and while Mitchell struggled at the offensive end, shooting 1-7 from the field for five points, she still made her presence felt with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Mitchell was also integral down the stretch with Hatay trailing by a point inside the last 45 seconds. She found team mate Hind Ben-Abdelkader from beyond the arc with an assist and then secured the defensive rebound at the other end of the floor before sinking two free-throws which iced the contest.

A week later, Enisey needed a six-point victory to win the series but trailed by seven at three-quarter time.

A ferocious 25-16 final term gave Enisey the win but three important free-throws from Mitchell helped reduce the damage and ensure Hatay got through to the Round of 8.

The Aussie point guard collected 16 points including 2-3 three-point shooting, three boards, two assists and two steals in another outstanding performance.

In the men’s EuroCup, Broekhoff and Lokomotiv Kuban remain unbeaten with their winning streak now at 13.

In the Round of 16 they are 3-0 with three games to come and Broekhoff has played a key role in their success, averaging 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, one assist and 1.7 steals over their last three contests.

His work on the boards has shown significant improvement while he continues to be deadly from beyond the arc, knocking down 10-19 since Lokomotiv Kuban entered the Round of 16 stage.

Ben Madgen and Lietuvos Rytas have not been as successful with three consecutive losses since the Round of 16 began. Madgen scored in their first two contests but is only averaging around ten minutes of court time.

Coming to the business end of the 2018 EuroCup finals, Australian representatives Leilani Mitchell, Ryan Broekhoff and Ben Madgen are still alive and striving for success for their three respective teams.
