MATCH REPORT: BOOMERS CRUISE TO DOMINANT 115-52 VICTORY OVER HONG KONG IN GAME TWO OF THE ASIA CUP 2021 QUALIFIERS
A young Australian squad built confidence and chemistry in their 63-point win against an undermanned Hong Kong today in Brisbane, with six Boomers scoring double figures and the Australia bench outscoring their opponent’s bench a whopping 67-8.
The Boomers spread the ball around, showing patience and unselfish play to set up high percentage shots after a sluggish start saw them go 4-12 in the first quarter.
Australia finished the day with 30 assists, a 63% FG percentage and a 54% mark from behind the arc with 20 three-pointers made.
On the defensive side, the Boomers generated 35 points off 21 forced turnovers while holding Hong Kong to only 35% shooting.
Boomers veteran Cam Glidden was on fire behind the arc, scoring 18 of his game-high 21 points off of three-pointers, going five for seven in the game.
He was supported by a trio of debutants who made the most out of their time off the bench. Kyle Adnam had another strong outing with 14 points and a perfect 3/3 from the three-point line, while Angus Glover contributed 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the victory.
Josh Giddey, the highly-touted 17 year old who is the youngest Boomers debutant since Ben Simmons, looked poised and full of energy in his limited time on the floor, finishing the game with 11 points and six assists.
The Boomers are 1-1 in the Group C standings and will next play Guam on 27 November 2020 and New Zealand on 30 November 2020 on the road as part of the Second Window of competition at the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers.
