DRMIC BROUGHT INTO BOOMERS TEAM AHEAD OF FIBA WC QUALIFIERS THIRD WINDOW

Suffering an injury during their training camp in Melbourne over the weekend, Wagstaff and the Boomers coaching staff has made the decision to be cautious with the Perth Wildcats forward.

Drmic, selected from the initial Boomers squad of 24, will join up with the team in Japan ahead of their game on Friday night at 8.40pm AEST with the rest of the Australian team having flown out this morning.

Joining the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL two years ago, Drmic had a breakout season in 2016-17 to win the Rookie of the Year award.

Appearing in 27 games and playing an important role off the bench, Drmic averaged 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while establishing himself as one of Adelaide’s most versatile and effective defenders as well as a strong rebounder.

He has reached the playoffs in consecutive years with the 36ers including a Grand Final appearance last season while he is also dominating during the 2018 SEABL campaign with the Dandenong Rangers, currently sitting in the top ten in the league for scoring.

The Boomers will complete the first round of qualifiers this weekend when they face Japan (on June 29) and the Philippines (on July 2) in the third window.

Having already earned a spot in the second round after winning their first four games, Australia will be keen to maintain their success as results carry over into the second round which will begin in September.
