Chemist Warehouse Australian Opals to Travel to France for FIBA Olympic Qualifier

The official draw for the tournament was confirmed by FIBA on Thursday November 28.

The 16 women’s teams were split into four groups of four, with the Opals having been drawn alongside France, Puerto Rico and Brazil.

The Opals are currently sitting 2nd on the FIBA World Ranking, the highest of the four teams, with France sitting at 5th, Brazil at 15th and Puerto Rico at 23rd.

They will travel to Bourges, France in early February with they’re first game against France on February 6, followed by games against Puerto Rico and Brazil on February 8 and 9, respectively.

During this February period, the WNBL will break, giving the Australians the opportunity to put forward their best possible team.

For the Opals to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics they will need to finish in the top three of their group.
