BV Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ‘Seed’ Grant Opportunity
Basketball Victoria is committed to reconciliation and the ongoing inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into basketball through member associations and environments that are welcoming and culturally sensitive.
As an organisation, we are implementing our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan or ‘RAP’ that will be registered with Reconciliation Australia. Our ‘RAP’ will provide a framework and an accountable structure for us as our relationship with the Australian Indigenous community continues to grow.
Seed Funding Program
Basketball Victoria is offering grants of up to $1,500 to assist in creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians. In total there are 10 grants available.
This program is an investment into local communities to build and sustain targeted participation opportunities. Participation is not restricted to playing. Participation includes coaching, officiating as a referee or score table as a technical official and volunteering on committees or boards.
As this program is seed funding, applying associations need to think about how the project or idea will continue after the initial grant period.

Who can apply?
Basketball Victoria member associations and member clubs of associations are eligible to apply for these grants.
It is recommended that a relationship and discussions are held with the local Indigenous community as part of the grant application process. A good place to start is through your local council or by visiting the Victorian Aboriginal Health Co-operative Organisation website – www.vaccho.org.au to find groups within your local area.
Aboriginal Community Service Organisations are also eligible to apply. Organisations will need to be legally identified incorporated organisation registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria and the application must be accompanied by a letter of support from a local Basketball Victoria member association.
Some ideas for programs include:
Establishing a new team or club for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
Subsidies for participation in programs such as Aussie Hoops or Pink Ball, domestic competition costs and registration fees
Assistance for families to cover travel costs to travel to games (does not include representative games or tournaments) where there is greater than 50km distance
Uniform subsidies
What cannot be supported:
Staff wages or contribution to wages. Payments to coaches and facilitators are allowed.
Capital works or building maintenance
Representative team or association fees
Interstate or international travel
