BOOMERS DRAWN INTO GROUP H FOR 2019 FIBA WORLD CUP

China will host the tournament from August 31-September 15 and the Boomers’ group stage games will be played in Dongguan on the South-East side of the country.

The replay of the draw ceremony can be seen below.

Australia (ranked 11th in the world) will face the sixth ranked team in Lithuania, 23rd ranked country in Canada and Senegal who are ranked 37th in Group H.

The Boomers will have pleasant memories of Lithuania after defeating them by 26 points in the Rio Olympic Quarter-Finals but they do not have as much recent history with their other two opponents.

They have met Canada at five World Cup’s, most recently in 1998 while the Boomers have only faced Senegal once in a major competition- at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Group H will crossover with Group G in the Round of 16, with only the top two teams from each group advancing.

From there, the competition enters a knock-out phase through the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and medal games.

Australia qualified for the 2019 FIBA World Cup on top of the Asian qualifiers with a 10-2 record.

That win tally was matched by Senegal in the African qualifiers and Canada who finished first in the American qualifiers while Lithuania went one better with an 11-1 record through the European qualifiers.
