Basketball Australia Statement on Athlete Health amidst Victoria’s COVID-19 outbreak

Following the positive COVID test results of athletes who train at the same facility, BA has requested that all of its players who have trained at MSAC immediately isolate and undergo a COVID test as a precautionary measure. This decision was made under the guidance of our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Peter Harcourt.

Our primary concern is the health and welfare of our athletes and we are working closely with them and the Australian Basketball Players’ Association (ABPA) to provide support for those affected.

BA is also working with the DHHS, BIO Security Management team of MSAC and our Chief Medical Officer to ensure total compliance of the protocols, actions and directives of the Government Health officials in the interest of our athletes and to minimise any risk to the wider community.

Basketball Australia (BA) has been facilitating training court and gym access at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) for Melbourne based Opals and Boomers players and additionally our Paralympic athletes Gliders and Rollers.
