Basketball Australia Position on SEABL
In that meeting, the BA Directors considered a proposal from a group of SEABL Clubs that asked whether BA would support the SEABL returning to a management model where the League is managed by the Clubs.
At a meeting of SEABL Clubs on 18 August ahead of the SEABL Grand Finals, Clubs were informed that the BA Board did not support the proposal for a self-managed League.
The Clubs were also advised that in considering their proposal, the BA Board had asked for a review of the SEABL competition in the context of the Australian basketball pathway for athletes, coaches and officials including our State Leagues and our two national Leagues in NBL & the Chemist Warehouse WNBL Championship.
This will also include an examination on the options to create a true National Club Championship for men and women which may involve all top tier State League teams and existing SEABL teams.
Basketball Australia is currently reviewing the timing and age brackets for its annual Australian Junior Championships featuring U14 Club Championships and U16, U18 and U20 Championships.
The BA Board next meets on 5 October 2018 and will further consider the options available to continue to deliver a contemporary world class basketball pathway.
