Victoria Metro Boys

Game 1- Victoria Metro 90 defeated Tasmania 49

Vic Metro have started the tournament in dominant fashion, with a massive win over Tasmania. The boys got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing at quarter time before evening things up going into half time. Whatever coach Linossier said at the main break worked a treat as the boys went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter and eventually outscored Tasmania 63-22 in the second half.

Metro were led by Jerome Pierre’s (Dandenong) 19-point, 13-rebound and Daniel Poelsma’s (Bulleen) 13-point, 11-rebound double-doubles. AJ Magbegor (Coburg) was also massive off the bench as he added 16 points.

Game 2- Victoria Metro 98 defeated WA Country 42

The boys started day two as they finished day one, blowing WA Country out of the water with a 21-1 opening quarter. Continuing the pressure through the entire game, this game highlights how dominant this team can be when they’re in full sync.

Seven players finished in double figures but it was Tristan Devers (Nunawading) who steered the ship for Metro as he finished with 15 points, five rebounds and a crazy seven steals. AJ Magbegor (Coburg) was once again massive, finishing with a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Sitting second in Pool A, Metro have a big day ahead as they face Queensland South and ACT today before meeting NSW Country and SA Metro tomorrow and Wednesday.

Victoria Country Boys

Game 1- Victoria Country 47 lost to SA Country 63

The Country boys had a mixed start to the tournament. Game one saw them meet SA Country with two players returning from last year’s team. Both sides were pretty evenly matched up through the first three quarters before a 21-14 final term in favour of SA saw them run out comfortable winners.

Darcy Jones (Southern Peninsula) topped the team scoring with 12 points and Jamie Ryan (Corio Bay) provided eight points off the bench.

Game 2- Victoria Country 87 defeated Northern Territory 55

Day two was better for the Country boys as they asserted dominance over the hosts in Northern Territory. A shaky start saw them down by seven points at quarter time thanks to nine turnovers. After a quarter time rev-up from coach Joel Anderson, the boys took the lead into half time and kept the foot down the rest of the game, scoring 56 points in the second half.

It was a true team performance for Country, with six players scoring double figures. Harrison Stones (Seymour) topped them all with 14, along with five rebounds and three steals. Jamie Ryan (Corio Bay) was again strong, pulling down 11 rebounds to go with his 10 points.

The boys are sitting third in Pool B and still have Queensland North, WA Metro and NSW Metro to face in the pool stage.

Victoria Metro Girls

Victoria Metro 79 defeated SA Country 53

Victoria Metro are sitting comfortable after a solid start to the tournament. A shot-for-shot first quarter was quickly forgotten as the girls earned a nine-point half time lead. The girls flexed their muscles as the game continued on, eventually running out 26-point winners.

Amy O’Hara (Hawthorn) was doing everything for Metro as she ended with 10 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Emily Maltezos (Bulleen) led the scoring with 13 points and three steals.

Victoria Metro 82 defeated ACT 44

The girls continued to show their dominance with a comfortable win over ACT. Finishing with 19 steals and shooting 60% from inside the arc, it was a strong game on all aspects.

Nyadiew Puoch (Dandenong) led all scorers with 21 points and also had two blocks. Amy O’Hara (Hawthorn) continued her strong tournament as she added 10 points and five steals.

Metro sit third in Pool A and face second-placed WA Metro today before facing Northern Territory, NSW Country and Queensland South in the pool stage.

Victoria Country Girls

Victoria Country 68 lost to SA Metro 77

Vic Country started their tournament with a tough loss to SA Metro. The first two quarters were mirrors of one another, with both sides going on big runs, and the Vics taking the lead into the final break. A dominant final term by SA gave them the win as points off turnovers proved the difference.

Dallas Loughridge (Warragul) was on fire as she had 21 points on 7-13 shooting. Dyani Ananiev (Seymour) was also solid as she finished with 15 points and pulled down seven boards.

Victoria Country 81 defeated Queensland North 51

Following on from the frustration of their previous loss, Country came out of the blocks hard against Queensland North. The girls took an early lead thanks to tough defence and attacking the glass. The pressure continued throughout the game and, although losing the final quarter, the girls had done enough to secure a comfortable win.

Dyani Ananiev (Seymour) and Dallas Loughridge (Warragul) continued their strong starts to the Championship but it was Myah Healey (Traralgon) who starred with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Vic Country are second in Pool B and meet WA Country tonight before battling Tasmania and NSW Country to round out the pool stage.
