ALL THREE AUSSIES SELECTED TO ATTEND 2019 JR. NBA GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Out of a group of 68 athletes and a handful of coaches from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand, the Australian trio impressed selectors across a two-day camp and will now head to Florida for the second edition of the Jr. NBA Global Championship in August.

A youth basketball tournament for the top 13 and 14-year-old boys and girls from around the world, the Jr. NBA Global Championship sees 16 regional champions (eight U.S. teams and eight international teams) participate in a week of on-court competition and off-court programming at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando.

The international teams will face each other in a round robin format followed by single-elimination Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals before the winner of the international bracket takes on the top U.S. team for the Global Championship.

This will be the second straight year that Australia are represented at the Jr. NBA Global Championship after the winners of the Under-14 Club Championships, Bulleen Boomers and Eltham Wildcats, competed in 2018.

Bulleen advanced to the International Final, finishing as the second-best team outside the U.S. while Eltham, led by coach Stratford who is now set to attend his second tournament, reached the Semi-Finals.

Dent competed at last year’s Under-14 Boys Club Championships for the Hawks and led them to fourth place by averaging 24.4 points per game, finishing as the tournament’s third leading scorer.

Hanson has impressed as she has risen through the Queensland Basketball Junior Competition while late last year, she was selected to Basketball Queensland’s National Performance Program for 2019.
