2018 UNDER-20 AND IVOR BURGE CHAMPS RECAP- DAY 1

U20 Men- NBA Global Academy 81 def. by Victoria 92

Despite a last quarter resurgence by the NBA Global Academy, Victoria were able to eke out an 11-point win. A fast-paced, energetic game saw the Victorians executing in the half court well while captain Matthew Johns showed his ability to produce inside and outside with some big long-range bombs. Leading by six points at half-time, the Vics then had to withstand a double-double from  Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua (ten points, 11 rebounds) who sparked the NBA GA and gave them a lead early in the final term. A disciplined defensive effort from Victoria down the stretch ensured the win though in an entertaining start to the tournament.

In a tightly-contested game, the lead changed hands several times before Rowan Mackenzie (22 points) and Alex Ducas (20 points on 7-14 shooting) carried WA to a strong victory. Alex Mudronja did his best to steal the contest for SA who had a game-high 27 points to go with ten boards but having to back up again on Day 2 at midday, WA would be very pleased to get their first win out of the way.
