The first games of the group stage began on Day 3 and they will conclude tomorrow morning before the Quarter-Finals start for both the Championship and Shield Divisions.

Today, Hills Hornets foght out a thriller against Sturt Sabres with the scores pretty even throughout the contest before Sturt took over late.

Making the most of their opportunities from the free-throw line, the Sabres finished with a +13 advantage from the charity stripe which equalled the final margin in a 60-47 win.

Mia Walker-Roberts top-scored with 20 points as she helped Sturt hand Hills their first loss of the tournament.

Another Champ Division thriller saw Gold Coast Waves and Sandringham Sabres go toe-to-toe for the full 32 minutes.

Scores were level with four minutes remaining and while Sandringham’s Hannah Wickstrom and Christina Roberts, who combined for 33 points, were instrumental in keeping them in the contest, they both fouled out late to leave the door open for the Waves.

Jessica Petrie took advantage, drilling three shots from beyond the arc on her way to 23 points as Gold Coast recorded a famous two-point victory.

Gold Coast own a 2-0 record after also taking care of Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and the Melbourne Tigers, Knox Raiders and Cairns Dolphins also impressed on Day 3 by going undefeated.

Another highlight of the day was home town team Shepparton Gators getting their first win of the competition, beating Taree Tornadoes 63-43.

Hannah Onley was unstoppable, finishing with 33 points while the defence of Eliza Bicknell and Holly Egan helped restrict the influence of Mariah Radburn (15 points) and Amarley Bron (13 points) who were the Tornadoes’ best.

Competition tips off again at 9am tomorrow before the Quarter-Finals begin from 4pm.
