Competition got underway today with last year’s silver medalists Dandenong Rangers hitting the court first against home team Shepparton Gators.

The Gators stuck with their opponents for three quarters thanks to 11 points from Hannah Onley before Dandenong pulled away late for a 15-point win behind 14 points from Breana Granger.

Shepparton will look to upset Hills Hornets tomorrow in their final group stage game after the Hornets swept their way through Day 1 to sit on top of Pool C.

South Adelaide Panthers fought out a thriller against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and while both teams had their chances late to secure the win, they could not be split in regulation.

The Sea Eagles eventually prevailed in overtime, winning by ten points as Alana Reddy scored 22 points for the game.

Sturt Sabres did enough to get past the Altona Gators and it could be a battle for first place in Pool F in the last game of the day tomorrow when they meet North West Tasmania.

Melbourne Tigers were electrifying at the offensive end against the Southern Tasmania Kangaroos and notched a century on the scoreboard before following up with a strong defensive effort against the Sea Eagles while Sandringham Sabres flexed their muscle with two wins on Day 1 against Coffs Harbour Suns and Townsville Flames.

Other notable performances saw Olivia Bradley of the Eastern Mavericks hit a tournament high 28 points, Emma Toombs from the Cairns Dolphins show off with four three-pointers on her way to 27 points and Mariah Radburn showcase her ability to force her way to the rim and earn free-throws as the Taree Tornadoes lost a nail-biter to the Knox Raiders.
