After the first day of competition, reigning Champs Eltham Wildcats have again showed they are one of the teams to beat in 2018 with two wins.

They will take on the North Adelaide Rockets, who also won two games on Day 1, in a battle for top spot in Pool A tomorrow at 2.30pm.

Blacktown West Storm, who beat hosts Kilsyth Cobras in a five-point thriller to start the day, also swept their contests in Pool B while Bulleen Boomers emulated the feat in Pool E as a few teams looked to assert themselves early.

Arguably the match of Day 1 was the Northern Tasmania Kangaroos’ two-point victory over the Brisbane Capitals in a free-flowing and impressive performance from both sides.

Lachlan Cooper kept Brisbane in the game with five three’s on his way to 20 points but with nine players hitting the scoreboard, paced by Lachlan Brewer’s game-high 21 points, the Kangaroos hopped over the line.

In his second year of Under-14’s, Anthony Mundine is looking to lead the Sydney Comets after they finished with the silver medal last year and he had 25 points in a win over the Werribee Devils while South West Slammers’ Malachai Bell top-scored for Day 1 with 27 points as he showcased his ability to hit from inside and outside.
